Faro is the gateway to the Algarve. Many customers arrive at the airport and decide where to eat, where to stay or which trip to take while still waiting for their luggage, and more and more of them ask ChatGPT. The answer depends on the whole brand, and that is what our GEO and SEO consulting works on.
GEO is optimising a brand for generative engines such as ChatGPT, Gemini or Perplexity; SEO is the part that optimises the website for Google. Our piece on what GEO is explains the difference without jargon.

The Algarve asks in English
A large share of customers in Faro, Loulé, Olhão or Tavira write in English: visitors, but also the many British and northern European residents. A question asked in English tends to be answered from English sources. A brand that exists only in Portuguese misses half of the conversations.
Many brands serve the whole Algarve, not a single town. Stating clearly which areas you cover, from the Sotavento in the east to the Barlavento in the west, helps ChatGPT tie you to the right questions.
The four fronts of an Algarve brand
- Google Business Profile. The area you serve, summer and winter hours and recent photos.
- Website. Portuguese and English pages that say the same thing, with prices and what you offer in each season. This is where SEO works.
- Social media. Instagram with the same facts in both languages, always with the right address.
- Reviews and replies. On Google, TripAdvisor and Booking, many in English. Replying in the language they were written in shows a brand that serves both audiences.

Arco da Vila: the gateway to the Old Town
The Arco da Vila, the early 19th century neoclassical gate into Faro's Old Town, is where many visitors start their walk, usually with storks looking down from the top. The boats to the Ria Formosa leave from close by.
That is where they ask ChatGPT, often in English, where to eat a cataplana or which trip to take on the Ria. A brand that writes "2 minutes from the Arco da Vila" on its site, its Google profile and its social media, and sees it repeated in reviews, gets into the answer.

Where we start
- Measure in Portuguese and English. We ask ChatGPT the questions of visitors and of people who live in the Algarve and count the mentions. Messgeo, our own GEO tool, repeats the measurement every month.
- Align the four fronts. The same information in both languages, everywhere.
- Reply to every review, in the language it arrives in.
- Earn mentions across the Algarve. Regional guides, sector directories, regional press.
- Repeat, and always before high season.
In two lines
In Faro, many people decide before they leave the airport, and many ask in English. The brand that wins says the same thing in both languages on every front. GEO looks after the whole, SEO after the website within it.
